Some of the most astute observers may have noticed that I missed one reason – reason #4 came before reason #3. I wish that I could say that this was some clever ploy and I meant to do it all along. Well, that would be wrong. I simply had scheduled reason #4 earlier in the week, assuming I would already have had reason #1 through #3 typed up and ready to go.
Which brings me to another reason why I can’t wait to enter my thirties! Flakiness!! We all know that no matter where you are in life, there will be flaky friends. However, there is something about the self-centeredness of being in the twenties that forgives and forgets this horrible attribute much more readily. Yes, we have responsibility in our twenties, but we don’t take it as seriously as I’ve observed the older folks do. People cancel plans last minute, simply don’t show up, double book themselves (possibly the FOMO reason) or realize they don’t have enough funds in their bank account to come out and play.
And I can’t stand flakiness! If you say you’re going to do something and you say you’ll be there, and then just show up! For some reason, in my early twenties I found this whole showing up thing really difficult. Getting out of the house took forever, finding my missing keys, worrying about what I was going to wear and how I was going to do my hair – it was so much pressure that sometimes I just flaked! And I know flakiness comes from just not respecting others enough to show up – and that’s the worst kind of flakiness.
I think there’s a law somewhere that you can’t enter your thirties without having been stood up on a date, without standing someone else up or something like that…
I welcome the thirties and the assuredness that comes with knowing people will be there.
